Has animations showing the movement of volcanic ash after a volcano puffs out the ash.  (Has Mt. St. Helen's half way down the page)

Information on the Redoudt 1989 eruption - an airplane flew into the ash cloud in/near Alaska; all  4 engines stopped.  Had to descend, where engines restarted, and made an emergency landing in Alaska.    http://puff.images.alaska.edu/Redoubt_webpage/Puff_redoubt_ash.shtml

Monday-

6th grade- RE p, 77-81 - Read, highlight main ideas, answer questions.
7th grade- Answer TB p. 217 # 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9.  (use Full Complete Sentences and Restate the Question and/or create Thinking Maps)
         imprtant for 7th graders: be sure to finish answering the 7 questions from Friday's computer activity!  (can click here for links and questions)

Tuesday-

6th grade- Finish pages 1 through 3 of Volcano tab booklet
7th grade- RE p. 64-68 - (these pages are in the packet we stapled together on Friday)   Read, highlight main ideas, answer questions.

Wednesday-

6th grade- RE p, 82-84 - Read, highlight main ideas, answer questions.
7th grade- Read TB p. 221-223, answer TB p. 227 # 1, 3, 4, 5, 7.  (use Full Complete Sentences and Restate the Question and/or create Thinking Maps)

Thursday-

M 1.31- Read TB p. 334-341, do SciNB p. 82, add "oxidation", "humus", "soil horizon", and "soil profile"
Forms were distributed to update your student's health information through their 5th period teacher.  Please fill out, sign and have your student return it to their 5° teacher immediately.  Thank you!

T 2.01- Finish SciNB p. 83, 84 and answer these Q's in SumIt boxes... on p. 83: Why are plants important in preventing erosion?  on p. 84: p. 341 # 7 AND Reading Check p. 337.  (FCS, RSQ).

W 2.03- Read TB p. 342-353, do SciNB p. 85, add: "meanders", "delta", "alluvial fan", "oxbow lake", "aqueduct", "levee"  (6 additional terms total)

R 2.04- Finish SciNB p. 86, 88, and study for open SciNB quiz on ch. 8 lessons 1 and 2 tomorow.

M 1.17- Martin Luther King Jr. Day  -- No School    (reminder, be sure to complete the activity titled "Volcanoes and Plate Boundaries" since it is due Tuesday the 18th)

T 1.18- Research for Bookmark project.  Project due Thursday at the beginning of class.  (Project requirements are listed at the end of last week's homework.)

W 1.19- Finish last part of Bookmark project & do SciNB p. 76 (should be the vocabulary page that goes with reading ch 7 lesson 3, page numbers to be double checked and typed in on the 18th when we return to school)

R 1.20- Study for tomorrow's quiz on chapter 7  - be sure to complete SciNB p. 77, 78, and 79 to assist you with tomorrow's quiz which will be open SciNB (meaning you can use your SciNB during the quiz). 
Absent today?  Completed SciNB p. 77, and should have SciNB p. 78 and 79 done for tomorrow's quiz.  We started filling them in class during the presentations. 

F 1.21- ch 2 lesson 1 WIGWAP (required if scored 80% or lower ... this means if total was 16 OR fewer, WIGWAP is required).  Can be done on binder paper in the usual format, or you may download and print the form by clicking link: QuizWIGWAP.pdf (40.62 KB)

    Absent today?  Wrote HW for the week, took & corrected ch 2 lesson 1 quiz, short introduction to volcanoes (vocabulary:  magma, lava, viscosity, types of eruptions)

T 1.11- Finish SciNB p. 71, 72 and answer TB p. 299 # 1, 2 in SciNB SumIt box p. 72
    Absent today? Watched beginning of "How the Earth Was Made - Iceland" (stopped at 19 minutes and 17 seconds).  Can be viewed online, click here for link to view on SchoolTube also started notes for SciNB p. 71, 72 to be completed at home.

W 1.12- Read TB p. 301-311, do SciNB p. 73, add "composition"
    Absent today?  Started Lab Activity titled Volcanoes and Plate Tectonics.  Students are to complete # 1 - 3 on the worksheet before leaving, and complete the remaining questions as their homework Friday night.  Copy of activity may be downloaded by opening attached file: VolcanoesPlateBoundActBAESImod.pdf (440.76 KB)

    Absent today?  Students took outline style notes (to be completed & filled in at home) and viewed some of How the Earth Was Made - Krakatoa" (first 10 to 15  minutes depending upon the class).  Can be viewed online, click here for link to view on School Tube.

F 1.14- Finish lab activity (questions # 4-8, we started this activity on Wed. 1.12 in class)
   Absent today?  We started the Bookmark Project.  Pairs of students were assigned a topic to research based on chapter 7 lessons 2 or 3. Requirements of the project are below; the majority of class time was given today in class to begin, additional time will be provided on both Tuesday & Wednesday.

Bookmark Project requirements:

o    2 or more illustrations of the idea(s) (pictures, sketches, etc.*)

o   Written/typed definition and/or explanation of the ideas in the assigned topic

o    Include a map to show where an example can be found, or an area effected by the topic

o    Title & authors

o    Neatness counts

o    Colorful with accurate information

o    Bookmark size options are on handout

 

*Optional: You could create a 3-D model to go with your bookmark.  The model would count as ONE of the illustrations; model MUST be able to fit inside of Mrs. Fischer’s shoebox.

 

Project Due Date: Thursday, Jan. 20 at the beginning of class.
