Read the news article from the Associated Press as reported by MSNBC and watch the video footage in the link above - it's quite amazing.  Pay particular attention to the waves of the water and the audio at the end when the passengers or crew are talking about the volcanic hazard that could be approaching.  Answer these questions using complete sentences which restate the question.  You can earn up to 2 points per answer, and 11 points for the bibliography for a total of 35 bonus points.  This must be handed in to Mrs. Fischer on or before Friday, April 3.

1. What volcano hazard(s) could affect the passengers and crew of the boat? 
2. Describe their concern about the hazard.
3. What landform is the volcanic eruption helping to create? 
4. What type of volcano is erupting? 
5. What type of rock is being formed? 
6. Find the latitude/longitude of the eruption near Tonga.
7. Identify the location of Tonga on a map of the lithospheric plate boundaries. (requires map)
8. What are trade winds?
9. What causes trade winds?
10. What direction do the trade winds near Tonga blow?
11. Identify a location that the trade winds could carry the volcanic ash? 
12. What questions do you have about the article or the volcano?
