Wednesday, 25 November 2009 13:31:42 (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00) ( final )

Hope you enjoyed your long weekend.  Just in case you find yourself with extra time, you're welcome to get ahead!

M 11.30- Read TB p. 246-251, do SciNB p. 56

Absent Monday? We started our Earthquake Timelines in class.  Students should have the time line set up correctly with five (or more) earthquake events on their timeline before they left class today.  Students can do the bonus options listed at the bottom of the grading rubric for up to 9 bonus points.  We will do the bibliography in class together later in the week.

T 12.01- Answer TB p. 251 # 1-3 in SciNB p. 57 and TB p. 251 # 5, 8 in SciNB p. 58 (FCS, RSQ)

Absent Tuesday? Viewed the ch 6 Concepts in Motion video clip titled " Earthquakes and Seismic Waves" (click here to view online resource so you may watch it).  We wrote notes into the bottom SciNB p. 57 and filled in the both parts of p. 58.

W 12.02- Read TB p. 252-258, do SciNB p. 59, add "focus", "shadow zone" and "surface waves".

Absent Wednesday? We started the Plate Boundaries Data Lab by identifying the locations of  15 or more earthquakes on the map (white paper) using the data table provided (green paper).  Students going on the King Tut field trip (Tuesday 12/8) will need to finish the rest of the lab (steps 2, 3, and 4 of the Procedure) on their own at home.

R 12.03- Answer TB p. 258 # 2, 3, 6 in SciNB p. 60, and TB p. 258 # 4, 5, 8 in SciNB p. 61 (FCS, RSQ)

Absent Thursday?  There was a short surprise quiz on the reading from last night, the questions asked to define one of the additional vocaublary words, list the 3 types of seismic waves, and to identify the seismic wave that travels the fastst.  We added the bibliography onto our timeline (timelines collected) and then started filling in p. 60/61 in SciNB.

F 12.04- Finish SciNB p. 57, 58, 60, 61 (we will be working on these during the week;IF time is used wisely in class, they will be finished before you go home on Friday.  If there is a lot of side talking or students chose to be distracted, the work will need to be completed at home.)

Absent Friday?  Today we used spring and/or slinky's to models how the primary and secondary wave travels through the Earth, demonstrated why locations closest to the epicenter will feel the seismic waves before locations further away. We also wrote some informaion about the seismic waves on p. 60 of SciNB.

Announcement: Final exams will be here before you know it! (They are on December 15-17)  The test will cover everything we have learned about this semester.  Get started studying by reviewing chapters 5 and 6 looking over old tests (your WIGWAYs will tell you which questions you really need to focus on!)
