first period mineral list: mineral must start with your first initial, and end with -ist
second period rock list: rock must start with your first initial,
third period list: You were assigned a state, research either the rock or mineral for the state you were assigned   .... unfortunately some states have neither a state rock, nor a state mineral.  I will assign a different state to you in class if your assigned state has neither a state rock nor a state mineral.

Has animations showing the movement of volcanic ash after a volcano puffs out the ash.  (Has Mt. St. Helen's half way down the page)

6th grade- write an MLA format bibliography entry for p. 305 of textbook
7th grade- write one paragraph (4-6 sentences) about the natural selection of cuttlefish (use your thinking map from class)

Wednesday-

6th grade- research your volcano  ..... volcanoes were assigned in class today for this Volcano Project.... click here to access assignment information and copies of the assignment.
7th grade- threatened / extinct / introduced species

Thursday-

6th grade- finish volcano project (due Friday for early etra credit, OR Monday for regualr credit - click on link to assignment information)

Tuesday-

7th grade- RE p. 64-68 - (these pages are in the packet we stapled together on Friday)   Read, highlight main ideas, answer questions.

After putting together the pages of the volcano tab booklet in order, complete the following things....

p. 0 --> cover (no tab)

student's title for the booklet goes below the boxes,
student's name and class period goes below the title,
in the three boxes .... name & draw the 3 locations where volcanoes occur... (one picture must show subduction of the older, denser plate, and the volcano forming on the plate that floats)

p. 1, 2, 3 --> 3 Types, Others, Landforms&Features tabs

  • 2 details for each underlined term AND
  • an illustration for each underlined term

p. 4 --> Warning Signs tab

make a list of the warning signs that scientists use to predict eruptions (I include the monitoring volcanic activity section with this; include some detail for each)

p. 5 --> Volcano Hazards effect humans & habitats

record the 5 hazards (volcanic ash, landslides/lahars, gases, pyroclastic flows, lava flows) AND
define each hazard (no pictures required)

Monday- No school for students; welcome to 2012.

Tuesday- Clean out Science section in binder/folder, keep green sheet from first day if you still have it (6th graders also keep yellow ruler if they still have it). Finish Darwin's Voyage

Wednesday-

6th grade- Read, highlight main ideas, answer questions in RE p. 73-76.
7th grade- RE pg 59-61  read highlight main ideas & answer questions along the sides of pages

Thursday-

6th grade- Make a list of 3 volcanoes in California, 2 volcanoes in Hawaii, & 1 that is on another planet.
7th grade-RE pg 62-63 read and highlght main ideas & answer questions along the sides of pages

Friday- Work on your New Year/Semester's Resolutions!  (Many of us make New Year Resolutions; sometimes it is to be more organized, eat healthier foods, get pleanty of sleep each night, ..... whatever your goals for 2012 may be, please work towards achieving them this weekend.  There is nothing to turn in for this.)
